Shelly Martinez aka Ariel was signed to a WWE developmental contact in April 2005. Shelly made her OVW debut as the co-manager for Aaron Stevens alongside Beth Phoenix. However, the team broke up later that same year. In OVW, Shelly had feuded with the likes of Beth Phoenix, Serena, Christy Hemme, and others. Beth Pheonix and Martinez appeared on the January 28, 2006 edition of WWE Heat as part of the Heart Throbs Throb-o-meter section.
Shelly made her ECW TV Debut as Ariel, a tarot reading fortune teller, on June 20, 2006. She eventually was joined with Kevin Thorn as his Valet. Thorn previously wrestled on the Smackdown Brand in 2004 under the name "Mordecai", but the gimmick did not do Thorn any favors. In ECW, Thorn takes on a vampire character who was stalking ECW arenas for weeks before making his in ring debut.
